Events - The Luminary of san Domenico and the main Churches
Praiano preserves many churches throughout its territory. At Vettica Maggiore, below the state road Amalfitana, you can visit the main church of Vettica Maggiore, dedicated to San Gennaro, with its beautiful dome of multicolored ceramic tiles. The spectacular panoramic terrace, in early August, is the protagonist of the extraordinary Luminaria di San Domenico, an event that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
In the upper part of Praiano there is the sixteenth century Church of S. Luca, in the area of the Antico Seggio, which has a baroque structure and a majolica floor dating back to the 18th century. San Luca is celebrated three times a year: October 18th, Monday in Albis and the first Sunday of July.
Walking through the alleys and the steps of the village, embellished with multicolored plants, there are various votive aediculas. The oldest bear the date of the eighteenth century and were once realized in memory of an event. Illuminated at night accompanied the traveler through the streets of the village. The charm has remained unchanged over time and visitors are enchanted by the scents of nature and the wonderful panoramic views along the paths and the stairways.
